Community puppet paradeA Biosphere over the D'Aguilar Range and Surrounding Areas

Over the past few years The Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious Environment Protection Association, Inc. has been pursuing the idea of a comprehensive and voluntary integrated land management strategy to try to secure the social, economic and environmental values of the D'Aguilar Range (including Brisbane Forest Park) and associated areas for the long-term future. Working with partners that include the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, SEQ Catchments, Brisbane City Council, Pine Rivers Shire Council, Powerlink, SEQ Water and the University of Queensland, investigations have begun to investigate aligning the proposed integrated management strategy with a world-wide network of similar management strategies coordinated by UNESCO under their "Man and Biosphere Program". In short, this would amount to listing the area and its associated management strategy as a UNESCO Biosphere.

The proposal to list the Range and associated areas (including the dams that feed off the Range country - Wivenhoe Dam, Somerset Dam and North Pine Dam) is thus being actively pursued, with input being sought from those with an interest in the area. The following pages provide further information to those interested.
